Local Lead Generation Services, OR Local Marketing Services?

I have to be honest, I have always thought that Lead Gen is a better business model than pure local online marketing. Before you get upset with me, let me tell you what I mean…

Think about this…

If you sell SEO services, you are going to spend a large number of hours over the next month delivering that service to your client…

If you sell SMS services, now you need to build your client’s SMS mailing list and handle the mailings to it…

If you sell website design or mobile web design, you are going to have to work with a client who doesn’t understand why you did what you did, who might spend an unprecedented amount of time arguing with you about how to best represent their business online…

I remember a local client one time who insisted on using her 600×600 pixel logo on her site, despite the fact that the logo added nothing to her bottom line… When I gave up on trying to get her to drop the logo, I then pivoted to try to make the logo smaller…

The client was determined that her ugly logo was the most important part of her website and anything I did to improve her site would have to be done “around” her 600×600 pixel logo!!

LOL

At this point, I am sure that I don’t have to prove to you that sometimes working directly with a client to do marketing services that will help them in the long run is not always easy to do, because either:

* Your client knows just enough about marketing to be dangerous to themselves and a pain in the ass for you;
* Your client is your client’s greatest enemy;
* Your client expects miracle results in less time than is necessary to roll out your campaigns;
* And, many other reasons for which your client will make the job hard for you to complete…

Additionally, as a service provider, making the sale is only the first part of the job… Next you actually have to perform the service…

So I had been reading about doing Lead Generation with local clients for a couple years now…

Because — bottom line — our clients are most impressed with us when we can put dollars quickly into their cash registers…

With Lead Gen, you do the work first, then sell the results to a local business owner… So that takes away one of the disadvantages of selling services… You get paid, then you can go to the next job…

Because you can move to the next job after getting a sale, this is a business model that you can quickly scale up based on your previous successes… The only work you need to do is to maintain what you did to get paid the first time, and more often, maintenance of what you started is much easier than building from scratch each time…

If you believe in your capabilities, then the local lead generation model should make a lot more sense to you than offering straight services.

Just some food for thought.
